Being Neighbourly
Working Together,
Keeping it Local
Welcome to Being Neighbourly
A message from our CEO, Fiona Haywood
Thank you for visiting our website and for taking an interest in what we do. At the heart of Being Neighbourly is a simple but powerful idea: bringing together local volunteers who care with neighbours who need a helping hand.
Whether it’s offering practical support, a friendly chat, or simply being there when someone needs company, our mission is to reduce loneliness, build connections, and help people feel safe and supported in their own homes.
The need for community connection became especially clear during the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2020, with the backing of East Grinstead Town Council, our network of volunteers quickly grew to meet the moment. What began as an emergency response soon blossomed into something lasting and meaningful.
By 2023, we proudly became a registered charity. With the support of our dedicated Board of Trustees, we’ve continued to evolve – responding to new needs, building strong partnerships with local groups and agencies, and expanding the ways we can offer support.
Everything we do is shaped by the people we serve. From help with errands and small tasks, to regular social activities and our befriending service, our work is driven by the real needs of our neighbours. You can find more details about our current services on the How We Can Help page.

If you or someone you know could use a bit of support, or if you’re interested in volunteering, we’d love to hear from you.
